Sowing carrot seeds in with existing carrots?
It's feast or famine for me with the posting lately.
I only have about 4 -5 carrots growing where I originally sowed. Can I plant more seeds in the same square? I am short on space so I'd like to double plant if I can. Another option is to put them in with my tub of potatos that have yet to sprout, but that bin is pretty full of seed potatos.
Any advce is helpful!

I do exactly what you are thinking, jy. When I have duds that fail to sprout, I jump in after about two weeks of waiting for everything to come up and replant the square with more carrots. Nothing wrong with that.
Are you planting one seed per hole or 2-3? I have done both with carrots. They are pretty hard to keep down to 2-3, so I try and get just one seed in there.....often having 2 or more land in there. If you aren't afraid to replant specific spots in your square, I try and get only one seed in there since I can just go back and replant a spot.

I don't think I would try to plant carrots in with the potatoes, both are root crops, so it seems they would compete for space, and the potatoes will probably shade out anything else in that tub.
I would fill in the carrot square. In fact I am about to do that at the community garden. The kids made seed tapes using paper towels and Elmers Glue and I was stingy with the seeds, I only had them glue one seed to each spot and we had sporadic germination, so the squares need filling in.

Re: Sowing carrot seeds in with existing carrots?
I read in a gardening book that you can plant carrots around pumpkins and watermelons in the early summer. You get sun for germination but as the summer goes on and the melons grow bigger and as the summer gets hotter it will allow them to get some sun but shad during the hottest time of the day. I was curious if that would work in a sfg, I keep thinking about trying it.
I wonder if that would also help your problem if it's possible?
