Found a source for 25# buckets of rabbit manure for $5 each on craigslist for Dallas, TX (Rabbit Manure).  They also have worm castings.  I'm planning to pick some up next week.  It will be a bit of a jaunt - about 200 miles round trip - but I will drop in on a buddy for a visit.

A guy who calls himself rabbithutch doesn't have his own rabbit manure? What gives?

OK, you've found me out.  Here's the skinny.

My last name is Hutchins - frequently shortened to Hutch

My first name is Robert - frequently changed to rabbit by childhood friends.

Decades ago, somebody called me rabbithutch to distinguish me from any of my 5 brothers, also called Hutch.  The name stuck.

Allergies keep me from raising rabbits.  That, and 'er indoors.

Is there any chance that a bunny has been using one of my boxes for a litter box??? These things are everywhere but only in one box: Rabbit Manure Photo114
Got my fingers crossed.

If they are, can I just mix them into the MM?

Yes, CC - they are rabbit pellets.  Just roll them into your mix.

All rabbit pellets aren't nice and clean.  I bought about 300 lb last summer and have had to compost them.  The problem?  Every where I placed them in garden, gill-over-the-ground grew.  Assuming that owner fed them these weeds and the seeds just went through rabbits' digestive tract.

That's great news, Judy! Thank you! Once the MM thaws I will roll them in.

I left kale and collard plants in this box to over winter in hopes of harvesting seeds this year. All the pellet piles are all next to plants, so hopefully bunny ate only organic homegrown veggies, albeit probably rather dead. Laughing

It baffles me that you are PAYING for rabbit manure.   Rolling Eyes    I did a query for rabbit breeders in my parish (county).  I found several and they are more than happy for me to show up with 5 gallon buckets and a spade.

One of the breeders keeps trying to GIVE me one of her designer rabbits.  I pass on that.  I would prefer to just scoop the poop rather than have to care for a rabbit.  Wink

Elizabeth - you are fortunate to have found this breeder!  In northern VA, most people want to make money on anything they have on Craigs List, etc.

Making friends with people who have animals is the only way to "get poo free" here and they live further out from the city.

Yes Judy, I am fortunate.  One of the breeders is "in town".  There are four more within a 20-30 mile radius of my home. Laughing

I am even more blessed than that.

My Sister and BIL raise Quarter Horses.  I have access to all of the fully cured, composted horse manure I need. cheers

My city/parish has a composting facility.  We have weekly yard waste pick up that is brought to the compost facility.  Arborist, landscapers, lawn services all bring their waste to the compost facility.   There is a charge to drop off but  the fully composted material is given away - FREE - to parish residents.

I show up with the utility trailer and it will be filled by an operator with a 2 yard front end loader. rock on

I am big on FREE.  I have visited my locally owned produce markets and grocery stores for vegetable waste.  Bring a couple of large garbage bags and they will load you up.  You may need to do some chopping but who cares - its FREE.

I love to cook and a much desired ingredient is Demi Glace.  It requires LOTS of beef bones and LOTS of time to make - like all day.   I was shocked at the price of beef bones.  $1.50 to $2.00 per pound.  Since it is an entire day endeavor I make a very large batch at one time using 75 to 100 lbs of bones.  VERY expensive if I have to buy the bones.  I visited  small, locally owned grocery stores that had a meat markets.  Low and behold - the market 2 blocks from my house GIVES me beef bones!  Very Happy

I have to visit and collect the bones over a period of several weeks to get enough bones for a large batch of Demi Glace but who cares when it is FREE!

Do you want/need 5 gallon buckets with snap on lids?  Visit the fast food joints in your area.  They get sliced pickles in 5 gallon buckets.  You can get them free or really cheap.

Need a compost bin?  Scrounge around at big box stores, grocery stores, lumber yards, building supply stores - where ever - get wood pallets - FREE!

If you need boards to build your SFG look for boards that are a little warped then talk to the store manager and make a deal.

When you buy peat and horticultural vermiculite look for busted bags.  Make a deal.

Now thru the next week is the time to visit the big box stores and make a deal on spent Easter Lilies.  Look for pots with multiple stems.  Talk to the MOD and make a deal.  A couple of years ago I purchased 8 spent Easter Lilies for 25 cents per pot.  Each pot had 4 - 6 bulbs.  What a deal!

If you just ASK you will be surprised at the deals you can make.

Sorry Embarassed   my rambling self has run off at the mouth.  Actually the key board. Wink
