This can't possibly be a weed...
Just FYI, this soil (premade MM) came from a guy who was recommended through this forum. I've had these Broccoli planted for a month now... and this little thing just popped up -- WHAT IS IT?! So confused

I see a nice wee broccoli seedling and maybe a weed, maybe a treasure. Seeds are everywhere and sometimes survive the composting process. This is not an indication of failure on the part of the compost manufacturer. It is all good! Let it grow a while and let's look at it again.

Should I transplant it into something different?! I don't want my Broccoli compromised!

No worries, all should be well for a week or so, enough time and room in that pot to figure out that the new plant is.tumtumsback wrote:Should I transplant it into something different?! I don't want my Broccoli compromised!

And when I figure out what it is, then what will I do with it? I already have 12 broccoli and don't need any more... This Is scaring me

You are overreacting. Don't worry and give it a little bit of time.tumtumsback wrote:And when I figure out what it is, then what will I do with it? I already have 12 broccoli and don't need any more... This Is scaring me
Learning patience is one of the hardest lessons of becoming a good gardener.

Or you can just gently tease it out of the Mix and transplant it to a separate pot.

This is an option. It typically is best to transplant something after it gets it's true leaves.sanderson wrote:Or you can just gently tease it out of the Mix and transplant it to a separate pot.

Camp, true, after they get the first set of true leaves. That agreed, I recently teased seedlings out of vermiculite before the true leaves appeared, but vermiculite is gentle stuff. I felt like a transplant surgeon! It was tedious.
Re: This can't possibly be a weed...
if you didn't plan this unknown seedling and don't want it....take small scissors and cut the head off and it wont bother you again

Oh dear! Your brocolli being compromised? That will never do. Don't panic, if you bring up your brocolli properly you should not have any worries.
Re: This can't possibly be a weed...
I wouldn't get that unknown seedling anywhere near a drug-sniffing dog.

It's a weed.
It's a weed. I get these all the time in the Mel's Mix I mix myself. It's no big deal, just pull it out. There is no way to completely eliminate weeds, but the Mel's Mix sure cuts down on these. I absolutely refuse to use mushroom compost anymore, as all these little mushrooms crop up in my boxes overnight. These are from the compost and I just pull them out.
I also have a self-contained, Lifetime composter. It grows all sorts of things as the compost is deteriorating, but when it's finished, all I have is the black gold.

Rahab,
Thank you so much for the feedback. There have been a lot of little guys popping up here and there ~ I just take em out from time to time, no big deal!
Cheers!
