Got serious and ordered a pressure canner
After much consideration and having fun with my water bath canner this summer, I decided to get serious and order a pressure caner. This one has a weighted 5/10/15 steam release jiggler sold separately which I ordered at the same time. This model also doubles as a water bath canner so I can eliminate the other one and save space. Did I do okay with my selection in that price range?
I look forward to expanding my horizons with this addition.

Dang! Looks like a great deal to me. It's a beauty!
I like that you can pressure cook with it also.
I can a lot of beans with mine. The dried ones are so cheap. And the cooker makes super fast soup stocks.
Betcha can't wait til it shows up!

Re: Got serious and ordered a pressure canner
Bought mine off eBay, like new. It's still waiting for me to use it, but now that I have the Blue Book, no excuses!
Re: Got serious and ordered a pressure canner
Same 1 I got! It works great! Order yourself another canning rack, I found 1 at a garage sale. No one knew what it was for. You can stack your jars(pint and 1/2 pint) and do twice as much. I water bathed 1/2 pints apple sauce, I think 25 jars at one time.
First time pressure canning can be scary, but you will like it as time goes on.

Very good price, for sure. It's the same Presto canner I just gave my son/daughter-in-law after finding it at Goodwill for...well, let's just say, for "a steal." They will be putting up applesauce early next month. Great to see the next generation becoming interested in organic foods, and canning same. Nonna (who today canned 9 pints of tomato sauce and 7 pint-and-a-half jars of tomato juice)

Must I only dream this year or is there another way ???

David has been a good boy all year and always eaten his greens ( well not fresh garden peas he hates them )
If you have room on your sleigh would you bring him , " A 21 & 1/2 quart All American Canner "
He would be delighted with it even if it were the only crimbo prezzie he got .
Lots of love
Davids secret admirer and friend

It's here.... it's here....
FedEx man dropped off the package I was waiting for all day with my new pressure canner inside. I am so excited
A very heavy duty and well made unit for the price point. I did go back get a 2nd bottom rack to double stack pint jars as suggested by littlejo in an earlier reply. I think I am going to love this one.
Yes Virgina/David..... there is a Santa

HooRay! Congratulations and a great time canning. It'll be sooo satisfying to open a lovely can of, say, peaches and serve them to admiring guests at Christmas with the Roast. So, what canning books have you bought? Our best to you, Nonna

I gotta say this -- It is really neat to see how so many of us expand our garden interests.
But in one year flat, Bnoles has gone from sfg to composting to chickens to worming -the summit of all hobbies
to canning to pressure canning.
It's like watching a rocket take off.
What's next Bob? Building a greenhouse? Start up your own vegetable business? Fruit trees? Oh I know, bees are next right? You accomplished a lot in a compressed amount of time. Ok I'm finished and apologize for embarrassing the poor guy. I've had a lot of fun watching this forum and seeing what everybody else is up to.
This one's for everybody

Re: Got serious and ordered a pressure canner
There's a great book on Pressure Cooking that starts out telling the whole history of the Pressure Cooker, which is basically what the pressure canners are. It explains how safe todays cookers are. I checked it out of the library and was glued to the book until I finished that part. It's called Miss Vickie's big book of pressure cooker recipes by Vicki Smith.mschaef wrote:This is on my list of things I want. I just need to get over the fear of using one before I buy one...lol.
It's worth the read for peace of mind.
bnoles, what's first???
