Time for Fall Planting?

This is my first year thinking in terms of fall gardening in northern Maryland (Zone 7 - more or less) I'm an hour south of the Penn line and a little elevated, so my plants tend to lag the dates for Baltimore City.

I've moved the excess marigolds out of my SFG, freeing considerable space, pulled up the radishes that did not make it, about to remove some played out yellow beans and harvest my turnips.

Based on the SFG book, it looks like I should be able to plant the following for fall harvest:

carrots
radishes
spinach
lettuce
turnips (love these yummies by themselves and in stews)

Is it too soon to put these in? If so, how many weeks should I wait? -- the SFG book looks like 8/15 would be about right. Does the soil need to "rest" between crops or need augmentation with compost or manure before a new crop -- the book is a little vague here.

Is it too late to start one or two broccoli plants? Do I have time for another round of yellow (bush) beans? These did OK, but my green beans are just getting it together for some reason.

The answer is right in the book, after emptying a square, add a trowel full of compost to replenish the nutrients and replant. I usually add 2 and dig it in to loosen up the soil.

I/m also in Zone 7 (just south of Baltimore.

 If you can find transplants there's still time for broccoli, cabbage and cauliflowers (transplant the first two around 8/20 and the cauli around 8/27).

Carrots can be direct sown the week of 8/6., peas 8/13 and beets 8/27.

Lettuce can be started indoors 9/3 (and transplanted 9/24).

Spinach can be direct sown on 9/3 and radishes on 9/24.

I'm going to go with dates that are 2 weeks earlier, I think. I'm due north of Baltimore at 440 feet above sea level, so my zone is more like 6.5 -- I bloom later than Baltimore City and I get frost earlier -- more like October 15 than October 31 that hits the City. (I'm not in the dreaded Hereford Zone, but close enough.)

My garden also suffers from being on the north side of my house and is partially shaded in the early morning and late afternoon. I do have strong overhead light from 11 AM to 3 PM -- we need some serious pruning up here, including in my own yard -- but I don't have the bucks to take down a full grown pine and full sized maple on the western side of my yard -- the houses in this older neighborhood are way to close together to even dream about having an amateur take a wack -- we're talking climbing high and lowering big limbs with ropes and lots of insurance.)
