Returning SFG from Texas
Hi! My name is Pat and I live in East Texas (Lufkin). I formerly lived in the Houston area and did a combination of Mel's SFG and French Intensive Gardening to great success. After my late husband retired we moved back to Lufkin and bought a home with a yard (front and back) in total shade. We really enjoyed it as it was peaceful, restful and relaxing for us. And because of all the shade, there were virtually no weeds to eliminate. Alas, we had a hurricane in August of 2008 and lost two mature trees in the front yard. Then in December 2009, we had a tornado and lost all, all, our mature trees. Our once full shade garden was now a full sun garden, in less than one minute! Fortunately no one in Lufkin was killed by the tornado and we are all thankful for that. But all the damage to our property, all the soil and grass destroyed by the tree cutters and stump grinders and their equipment and all the thousands of weed seeds blown in and deposited have created a lot of work, which is still on-going. New saplings have been planted and have put on good growth. New shrubs are thriving and slowly, slowly the weeds are being conquered. I have decided it is time to get back to SFG for veggies since I now have plenty of sun. Looking forward to a new start.

Welcome~
Welcome back to this forum Parb. As you can see, it is full of useful information. Wow, I am so sorry about all you've been through with extreme weather (hurricanes AND tornadoes).
Well, you are making lemonade out of lemons. I hope all goes well with your garden (I'm sure it will with all the sun).

Thank you. Slowly, but surely it will get better. Yes, I have plenty of sun now and I am playing with lots of sun loving plants, especially flowers.
