Finding Compost
Hubby and I are one week old to square foot gardening and we have built some boxes and went in search of vermiculite, peat and compost. We found the first two very quickly, however, after much searching and many stores and nurseries, we found compost that is peat and cow manure mix. Where do you find the purchasable compost while we are waiting for ours to take hold? I can't wait that long to put in our garden with such a short growing season.
Thanks much.

Susan B - You can try Home & Garden Centers, Big Box stores like Lowes or Home Depot, sometimes Local Hardware Stores Like Ace or True Value carry Compost, or if you live in an areas that has Farms close by, you can contact some of them, and see what types of manure/Compost they recommend or maybe even be able to provide for you...If your community has a Recycle Dept or Trash Dept, sometimes they offer Compost free for the hauling away...You can also check with local Nurseries in your area and see what they recommend...In my area, one Nursery has a Leaf Mold type of Compost by the bag, but they offer a Muchroom type of Compost only by the Pickup truck full...There are even places which will ship it to you if you're willing to incur the additional costs of doing so...And If you have a Lowes in your areas (As mentioned previously) you can ask them if they have or can stock the Garden time product of Mel's Mix, already mixed up in 2 Cu Ft bags, (ask for Item # 308781)...Good Luck, I'm certain you'll find what you're looking for...
