Hello all!
I got hooked on SFG 20 years ago from watching Mel on Public TV during the summers in our trailer vacationing in Oceanside CA. I am a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, NV and have given copies of the SFG book to most of my friends through the years. Last year I started an orchard on an 1/8 of an acre. The area between the rows of trees was calling to me but it took a bit to sink in. The rows are 10' apart which left a perfect lane for 4'x4' SFG beds! I look forward to reading through the information on this forum and learning some new tricks from all of you.

Hi welcome Max
I have my SFG between my fruit trees.
I figure that they will take several years to grow large and my SFG can be moved if need be.
What fruit trees are you growing?

Ooh, I bet that looks so pretty - your orchard with the rows of fruit trees and SFG boxes down the aisles. I hope you'll post pictures!

My mother lives in Las Vegas. She immediately bought the book and set up her own SFG's after perusing the book during a visit to my place last year. She got a little frustrated with it but recognizes she has a lot to learn. Since you've gardened there for so long, perhaps you'll share some tips.

"What fruit trees are you growing?"
This is the layout for my orchard, purple dots are plums, the hot pink are pluots, gold=apricots, red are apples, orange=peach and the gold with white centers are apriums. The four hot pink dots along the west fence are pomegranates. Max in Las Vegas New-or11

"Pretty" is in the eye of the beholder, I think it is but who am i to say? Between the eastern most rows of trees there are three 4'x4' raised beds that I put in last year, strictly speaking they aren't SFG beds except in the way I plant and care for them. They are kinda sorta half-assed hugelkulture beds in that there are lots of scrap wood and wood chips about 6" below the planting surface. The big bed you can see in the picture is 12'x4' and is filled with compost, old coffee grounds, and the results of the spring cleaning from the "deep litter" in my hen house. I have sown it with red wheat, oats, and barley to help it mellow out a bit before planting vegetables.
