Re: Garden 2013
Ok..got the first two beds planned...
I call this one the framed bed because hubby built a 4ft tall frame around it
so I could grow vines up..
This is my winter harvest bed's spring planting.
My program messed up so I had to do a screenshot
before it closed so it looks funny but readable.
Oh as this is done I will replant with beans for summer. Then about the last of July/first of Aug I will tear them out to put in the winter harvest plantings! Last year I got started late and didn't get anything after Christmas!

Re: Garden 2013
Here's what my garden layout looked like last year...this year I plan on doing more beans, carrots, and beets, less peppers, and no eggplant. I also went to a big seed exchange in KC last weekend and won a Geo-Bin composting system as a door prize. If it stays warm enough tomorrow, I'll have to fill it with some in-progress compost piles I currently have on the ground (maybe post some pics as well). It will help turn and aerate the material as well as stave off cabin fever for another week or so.

Re: Garden 2013
Here is my basic plan for this year.
Also, this brick bed is going to have some of my unused trellises added to it and I am going to plant some pole beans so get some extra beans and shade the living room which absolutely BROILS in the midsummer sun (SW corner of house - this pic taken at 7 pm in spring, notice window still in direct sunlight!).

Seed Storage
Went to Michaels today to see if they had anything for spinning (of course they didn't!).
I walked out with was 2 photo and craft keepers!
Regularly $39.99 on one day sale for $17.95! I got two for less than I would have paid for one!
LIke this one. I don't shop Hobby Lobby but they had a picture.
I can sort my seeds and put each pocket in it's own envelope and store the whole thing in the fridge!
Hubby suggested storing by bed. Um..not gonna work lol..would have to do a lot of resorting a few times a year! But I can sort by early, summer, fall, and winter planting. Or any other way that might take my fancy lol..
The other one I will use in my sewing room for all the little bits and pieces when I sew doll clothes.
Also went to Costco and found a 5 pack of 12x12 project boxes like you would store scrapbook paper in for $20 (usually about $15 apiece!). That project is already covered So once again, sewing. These will keep my sewing projects organized.
Humm..or maybe I can figure a way to use them to organize my garden records!
And I am one of the most DISorganized people I know! I think my gardening is helping! you can not have a good garden without some organization! I think it is rubbing off!

You know cindilou
I am the same, i have been experimenting with containers to organize my seeds.
Have finally settled with a cd case from Staples It has all these slots to hole the caseless CDs so I put my smaller seeds containers in there and the larger seeds lined up between them

Re: Garden 2013
Today I got the heat matt started with lettuce, Siberian dwarf kale, arugula, Swiss chard, loofah, acorn squash, sugar pie pumpkin, zucchini, muskmelon, broccoli, cotton, nasturtiums
Tomorrow I will start tomatoes. Several different kinds. Ground cherries, cucumbers, banana peppers, bell peppers, and what ever else needs started.
Lost my pepper seeds! Nowhere to be found! The whole baggie! So went and got fresh bell and sweet banana.
Started out looking all over for my small block maker Nowhere to be found I didn't have my garden shed thing last spring when I was done with it. Where the heck did I put it! Not in the garden shed, not in the storage shed, not in the old camper we store stuff in. So figured, ok, I can make due with the 2" one. I was doing gourds and big seeds anyway.
After I had the tray made and planted I went out to the cabinet on the deck to see if I had stuck my vermiculite out there. I didn't want to get coat/boots on and walk out to the garden shed if I didn't have to! Low and behold, there WITH the baggie of fine vermiculite, MY LITTLE BLOCKER! I was so happy! I did some of the little seeds too!
Now I am seeded out...well till tomorrow
Thought I was behind from last year. But I looked back on my old thread..I am behind on tomatoes and peppers and such but those won't matter. Last frost isn't till after the first of May. Last year they got a little bigger than I liked before I got them planted. And the gourds and such I am earlier than last year. That is good.

Re: Garden 2013
Today there were 5 cottons (but I forgot they were colored and have no idea which color lol), two loofah, a pumpkin, more lettuce, a chard, and the rest of the arugula are also up.
At least the cotton won't be mixed up when the pods open!
My greenhouse needs to go up THIS weekend.
Planted today:
Tomatoes ---mortgage lifter, tiny tim, and Thessaloniki
Bell and Banana Peppers
strawberry spinach, Malabar spinach
straight 8 and white cucumbers

Tray down...AGAIN!
I have no idea what is with me and my seedlings! Last year a tray fell. This year I dropped one.
I told hubby next year my cabinet WILL come back! I will find a place for it if I have to take out his computer desk THAT got me the look
Seriously, I did..I dropped a tray of seedlings. Thank goodness it was mostly arugula and they were ok. I will just go with what I have left.
i know why I dropped it Stupid hand, m.s. makes it weak and unpredictable. I know this and still get moving without concentrating. I have to juggle while looking UNDER the light with the kitchen set up. So Boom..told hand to go left and it went right...
With my cabinet I have two shelves that I have the seedlings on with room to move them. And one shelf for the heat mats for germinating. So over the summer I am going to do some figuring out and move stuff in the early winter before I need the cabinet.
But I have nice cotton from the seeds Josh sent. And have loofah! Last year I did three plantings of that and only had ONE germinate!

I am so jealous (in a good way jealous)
I wanted to grab some cotton seeds when i was in Arizona last year from the cotton field. I have mever grown cotton and would love too.
I need a 12 step program.
Hello my name is Diane , and i am a seed a holic!
Ig it uas a seed i just need to grow it.
I also want a coffee bean seed(s)
A banana tree
Tea plant
Stevia
Kiwi
I am growing an avocado tree, a pomegranite tree and a fickle ficus who sheds her clothes regularly.
If it has a seed , it must be grown!

I think we have a whole thread on this subject somewhere on the forum!
CindiLou - so exciting to see all those little green sprouts popping up! Thanks for the good laugh about the hand told to go left that went right - I have Trigger Finger issues with a thumb and a few fingers and sometimes when it lets fly, well, ahem, things fly! Laugh or cry, we choose to laugh!
Hoping to get my toms and peppers started this weekend, but that would mean that I have to FIND my tom and pepper seeds! I have lost my entire package of new seeds for 2013, somewhere in my computer/sewing/craft black hole. My mission, should I choose to accept..........

Yup had the same problem with my pepper seeds! I know they are around here SOMEWHERE! But I chose to get new and just put the others were they belong when they show up. They musta not wanted to go in the wet dirt!

Well, I still haven't found where I put all my new seeds for 2013, but I did find the new organized space I put the rest of my old seed collection in, so I at least have my colored carrots for Carrot Week and my Lipstick peppers. Thanks to Cheyannarach I have some Dakota Gold tomato seeds I can start inside today as well. Tomorrow I have to get the basement cleaned out and ready for the new washer delivery at 5:30 pm, so I may find the rest of them yet!
