Looks great! How long have you had your spinach out? Mine really suffered during those two heavy snows we had and I don't think it's coming back. Also, what are you using for your support pole for your trellis?

My spinach did well during the late snow storms (15" and 9"), plus the latest round of frost, hail, rain, etc. I also have a weird patch of onions...I pull every onion I can in the fall, then in the spring there's a thick patch of them growing again (and they've never gone to seed).

I use heavy duty steel t-posts to support my cattle panel trellises, one on each side.

looking good! i see your little onions already are turning into bulbs...were they like that when you planted them? Last year, our onions never made the bulbs...only thick stems and tops.......thanks for any info!

I did a little bit of both...skinny onion sets and bulbs. I had about 50% success last year on the green onion sets actually forming a decent bulb.

Your pictures give this 5a gardener hope. We've had so much rain that today was the first real day I could address our vole issue (adding hardware cloth to raised bed).

I've never overwintered vegetables. Does the kale and spinach keep growing for another season? Can they overwintered another winter?

yes, the kale and spinach were planted last fall and survived through the winter. I'm assuming they'll fade when the summer heat arrives.

We finally have a few days of sun in the forecast...then back to 3-4 days of rain with frost warnings...waiting to get the tomatoes, pepers, melons, and cucumbers planted.

Thanks for the pictures ...
Those onions that keep coming back ...do they smell of a slight garlic aroma by any chance ?

If so ....they could be a perennial garlic chives . They don't get much of a bulb on them .

They are in an area where I planted a bunch of extra onion sets two years ago...I harvested all the onions that year it seems like the onions keep growing back. I don't think I let any go to seed.

The greens are about 2' tall..I'll check this evening on what they smell like.
