Well the hand still isn't at 100%.  I started physical therapy a couple weeks ago and see some improvement, but still not enough to suit me.  I still can't bend my last three fingers well so I can't hold tools or carry much weight with it.

Thanks to Square Foot Gardening it's easy to work with the Mel's Mix and since we don't really need tools, my biggest problem is harvesting things that need to be cut from the vine!

I started my fall garden a couple weeks ago and things are starting to sprout. Very Happy

So, what have YOU planted?  Are you doing a one-time planting or doing continuous harvest (planting a few of the same crop every week or so).

What are your plans for hadling the cool/cold weather?

Bummer about your hand, Kim.  I remember when I broke my right wrist how strange it was trying to do everything left handed.

My first frost date is Nov 10th so a couple weeks ago I planted seeds of spinach, carrots, kale, collards, beets, lettuce & pak choi in this front box in hopes of carrying the tougher ones on into winter under plastic.  They have all sprouted already: Mid-At: Sep 2013 - Fall Garden? Photo111

There are also larger beets, chard, carrots & cabbage in this box. The next 2 boxes are full grown kale & collards.  They, too, will be under cover.

Elsewhere, without cover, I have chard, peas, spinach, kohlrabi & different lettuces growing for fall.  Some of those will carry on into winter and some wont'.

I have replacement lettuce seedlings growing indoors. Any moment now (when I remember to do it) I'll be sprinkling carrots seeds around the tomato plants since they were so yummy last year when I pulled some here and there during the winter.  I'll also put in some more spinach seeds in a few weeks to winter over for an early spring crop.

Would love to hear what everyone else is planting now for fall.  What did you plant, Kim?

I planted several varieties of lettuce, spinach, savoy cabbage, radishes, turnips, scallions, snap peas, kale, carrots, beets, collard greens, broccoli, cucumbers & bush beans.

Even started some herbs for the house.

I'm doing some experimenting - lemon cucumbers are 65 days and they really seemed to suffer in the heat here this summer.  I planted them 3 weeks ago.  If our fall is mild I may just get some.

Since I sell seeds, I have a TON of them, so it basically costs me nothing for four seeds to play around with.  If they don't produce . . . I don't really care.  It was an empty space anyway.

I planted snap peas about 2 weeks ago and they are around 3 inches tall now and grabbing onto the trellis. Turnips are coming up to but the lettuce has not shown their faces yet, but I'm checking every few days. The green peppers I planted early in the summer are growing like gang-busters!

OK. I feel better about seeing any lettuce or spinach yet. Even my bush beans have been half hearted (about a 50% sprout rate). The radishes are enthusiastic and I see broccoli coming in. I guess we just have to wait until things are cooler for the leafy greens to sprout.

This is my first trial for this cold frame.
Put it up last fall, long before I found SFG, well lets see how it does.
