love this video on strawberry plants and how they are covered up to over winter ....and.....

he also talks about how he has planted potatoes for years in the same place.... and.... they harvest and replant the same day and leaves the potatoes to over winter Very Happy and grow....

the gardeners name is Paul and he lives in the PNW....so not sure it would work in every part of the country.....because of differnt weather conditions....

happy gardening
rose....who is going to try this method of harvesting and replanting on the same day...... Shocked

Thanks ROSE for a great video.
Me thinks I am going to search for more potatoes that I might have left behind in my potato bed.
PLUS WOW that whole wood chips thing.... looks like a great system..
I might just try it this year for my strawberries, wonder if I could put the chips on now over the snow?

GWN......we are doing the wood chips Very Happy

there is a thread for *Back to eden* in *other* gardening Very Happy

we are trying this way of gardening and we also have put wood chips on top of our SFG box's and so far all of our gardening area's are doing well..... Very Happy

we also saved some of our tiny potatoes to replant this year from last years harvest.....and we are going to purchase some new potato seed as well.....it was enteresting how Paul said he puts back his biggest and best potato and he wonders why people cut up the potato when they plant them.....

I think We will plant small potatoes from last year, cut up seed potato and whole seed potato and see how they compare....

i like the idea of harvesting and re sowing the same day and with the wood chips you dont have to hill up the potatoes as they grow .....we used wood chips on top of our potatoes last year and did not have to hill them.....

i think i will try one potato straight on top of the grass like Paul said in the video and then cover it with just wood chips and compare how it does to the other potatoes we plant in the garden area's Very Happy

I wanted to give y'all an update on the potatoes. I'm all the way to the top of the bucket now and they're still looking great. I had a run-in with some compost mites (which is the best we could figure they are) but the plants still look strong. Here's a pic:

Thanks Rose! It's very exciting watching them sprout and grow their way to the top of the bucket. It only took about 2-3 weeks to get this far. Now I just have to be patient for a harvest!

The vines are going to keep growing, upwards of 3 feet. I just thought I would mention it in case you have never grown them before.
