I have these running around almost all of my planters and in my SFG. They are extremely small (thus hard to photo) and they run around rather than fly. (Or at least I have not seen them flying.) They are mostly black but some are white or silver near the back of their body.

Can anyone identify this bug? Little10

I call them gnats, but that is probably a misnomer. I believe they cause no harm.

I can't see well enough to be sure, but likely from their behavior, they are phorid flies. They are harmless to your garden, and may be helping, because some species parasitize pest insects like fire ants.
