Thanks, Rooster! I actually logged on today to search for tomato issues - thanks to your link I now know I'm dealing with physiological leaf roll (which is luckily an easy fix!)

And while poking around the site I found a photo that looks to be the exact problem with some of my bush beans. A common mosaic potyvirus. I'm pulling those up as soon as the sun rises. Thanks Rooster.

+1 on the haifa site!

Was wondering if there are any homemade solutions to the deficiencies listed with the pics.  I think that I might have a nitrogen deficiency (1st year MM) and possibly phosphorus and potassium, too.  So far, no signs of calcium deficiency.

I've been grinding my eggshells to use as a direct calcium source (instead of putting them in the compost).  I've also dried and ground banana peels to use for potassium boosts.  The problem is that I don't know how much to use.  Any suggestions?

Also, is there a similar household source for phosphorus?

That's a great site camprn. Thanks.

I tested my tomato bed last week and it tested fine for P. Right next to my giant cherry tomato plants is a stunted Carbon that is barely 3 ft tall, but was the last to grow up. It looks really healthy and finally has a few tomatoes growing, but it's strange that one plant would have this problem. I wonder if the problem started in the plant which I bought form a nursery....

Tomato Plant Diseases and Symptoms Empty TYLCV

Post  Rolling Stone 1/14/2015, 3:14 pm

Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus.
     ***  TYLCV  ***

This virus has just shown it's ugly face in my Fall Tomato Patch. I pulled the plant and bagged it to go out with the household garbage and trash pickup. (Do not put in with yard waste.) With luck, there is only one plant involved.

David B. Langston, University of Georgia, reports:
"There is no treatment for virus-infected plants. Removal and destruction of plants is recommended."

It seems that whiteflies are the transmitter. So, controlling the fly before an outbreak should work. But if you spot a diseased plant it is probably too late.

For a pic, see the Clemson Cooperative Extension web pages.

TOMATO QUIRKS

I liked this series of seven articles by Veggie Gardener. Each one tackles a different tomato problem and has a good photo of each.
