Great garden. I like how you use every bit of space for something productive.

Re: new pics

What is that hanging from the tall black posts? It looks like 2 hammocks; one lower and one above.

Lee - those are my horizontal trellises. Basically two panels of concrete reinforcing mesh from Lowes...under the trellis I have some determinate tomatoes (celebrity, rutgers imporoved, la roma) that will grow up through the panels...eliminates the need for tomatoe cages around every plant (wouldn't fit) and makes picking fairly easy.

Clever idea! How large are the openings?

horizontal trellis
Landarch,
Gorgeous garden!
Have you done horizontal trellising with that method before? It seems like a really good use of space...is this an experiment or a tried-and-true method for you?
Thanks!

Re:New Pics
SwampCatNana.......I like your small plant cages.....is that made out of hardware cloth...24 inches high......covers l 12in square.....than you have a smaller one for one plant out of 4 in a square......right?...do you hold it in a round with a plastic tie? and do you put it in the earth a few inches for stability? looks like a great idea....Ruth

Re: new pics
Amanda - I have not tried it before but I have friends that have and it works well for them, especially when round cages can't fit in a small area.

Re: new pics
Ruth, I don't think it is hardware cloth but just a tight wire mesh available at Lowes. At first I did these to keep the rabbits from eating the tops of my peppers during the night...but I may leave them up to support the pepers.

I assume it was rabbits...I see them in the neighbor's yard and my pepper plants were bitten off at the top. Green beans had their first leaves betten off.
