Re: tomato blight

This year has been weird. Normal in early May, cold in late May and early June, hot in July and Aug. Dry in May and June and good rains late July and Aug.

My tomatoes this year are all thick, green and bearing fruit. I did a lot of what I hope was preventative maintenance. I started spraying early with the 1 aspirin to a gal of water for 3 weeks, followed with 1 tbls baking soda to a gal of water for a few weeks and late in July started with copper fungicide every other week. I also sprayed the entire garden with Neem several times. Knock wood, so far no blight, but just this week I started getting huge beetles eating my tomatoes. The look like japanese beetles on steroids.

Kay; I understand what the copper fungicide is for but if I may ask, what is the purpose of the aspirin, baking soda and neem ?

Although we have had to fight blight this year we are still well satisfied with the amount and size the tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and lettuce we have gotten this year and plan at add at least one more bed for next year. I don't know how to post a picture below so I changed my profile picture as a little example of the tomatoes. The one on the right weighed 19 ozs. and on the left weighed 14 ozs. Hope this works lol.

Yes, they tasted great, even with all the problems from the blight this is by for the best we have ever done with tomatoes. Although they are thinning out now we have supplied the whole neighborhood for two months with tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. These raised beds have made believers of us lol
