Pole beans..where to place the 8 in a SQft?
I have a 2x2 that I am using for pole beans. Should I put the trellis it the middle and plant 4 behind and 4 in front? Should I plant all 8 in front with the trellis behind? If so then 8 in a row? That seems really close.
Thanks all!
Thanks all!

Danni: O asnd x etc. Where I have put an X, that is where you put your seed.

Hope my spacing comes out OK.
You put your trellis between the two X rows.
ETA, Well, the spacing did not come out as I had typed it. Hope you get the idea.

Pole Beans
I planted them like 9 to a square, but just put two in the middle row. My trellis will be at the back of the square. I have wondered why it is 8 to a square rather than 9.

Have you read THE BOOK, memart. That is where I get most of my information. I expect you are growing bush beans, they are nine to a square; pole beans are eight to a square.
Re: Pole beans..where to place the 8 in a SQft?
Here's my setup. I put 8 to a square 4 on each side of the trellis.. I did the same for my snap peas. No idea if this will work, but this is my year to experiment...

Here is how I planted mine:

This is what I meant by like 9 to a block but two in the middle row. My trellises all go up the back of the square.

You can train the front plants to the back of the square? I wasn't sure they would stretch that far, if they do I'll be switching my trellis to the back of the square next year.

Pole beans
This is my first year, and they are not up yet, but we'll see. All my trellises on my current box are against my house. As they grow they should be able to go back I think.

Thanks everyone for your responses!
In this picture, Which way is north/
I am wondering which way to face the trellis.
Should it be the first or second? The solid lines are the outside of the box the dots are the trellis, X's the beans. (I did not add in all the 8 to a square just enough to understand my question)
#1 (but centered, the spacing here will not let me do it in the center)

Pole beans
For Philct -- I laid in bed last night and was thinking about your comment about will the pole beans stretch to reach my trellis and I realized you thought my graph was a 4 x 4 box. No -- it is just one square, so the beans are planted in a back square. My garden is along the house and is 26 ft x 30 inches. I put marigolds in the half square at the front, then smaller crops in the first full square, and crops needing a trellis at the back. I'll just have to see what happens. I did put 9 bush beans in a middle square and from what I am now reading I may have to stake them or something.

Ahh sorry about that. I worked all night so I have plenty of time to ponder!!! I figured it was one square, I just didn't know if you knew whether or not the front row of beans, peas, etc can be trained to the back of the 1x1 box? I'm interested to see if its possible as I have my trellis in the middle of the row instead of at the back end. Keep me in the loop!!!

Re: Pole beans..where to place the 8 in a SQft?
I sure hope so because my trellis is outside the box. Here is how the peas are growing up it. They were planted in 2 rows of 6 ( some didn't sprout). Following with beans when peas give up.

I put my 8 beans like this:
The circles are the beans and the "X"s are where I put 6' bamboo poles and tie them at the top like a teepee:
