I live in London, Ontario, so I think the frost is over now. I am just heading out the door to plant my first seeds in raised beds. My question is : I have not created a compost yet, so I was thinking that until that time, I would save my peels of vegetables from cooking each day, or extra leaves, and blend them up in a "smoothie" and pour this nutritional mix on the garden.

How much water would I need in ratio to vegetable scraps to add to the "smoothie" to pour into the garden without it being too nutrient dense, or causing rotting or wrecking the seeds ?

Do I have to mix the vegetable solution into the mud, or leave it on the surface ?

I've jsut pulled a bunch of dandelions and Creeping Charlie weeds out of the back yard, and I was wondering if I could blend these up as well and pur that as fertilizer into the raised beds ?

Thank you for your insights !

I would find a few spots that I could dig a small hole and pour the slushy into the one spot as worm food. The worms will find it, eat, and spread their nutrient-rich castings throughout your box. Of course this will only work if you have worms in your boxes! If they are on the ground without bottoms, feed them and they will come!

I would caution against using the dandelions and any weeds this way. You will be spreading them in your garden where you do not want them. Weeds and anything with seeds in it needs to be well composted first.

I think you would be better off buying compost this time and starting your own compost pile with the weeds and vegie trimmings.

By the way Fertilizer Smoothie 396615 . Have you read the ANSFG book?
