fertilizer
Hi everyone, I have been reading about making fertilizer for roses and garden vegetables and was wondering if anyone actually does this? I know that Carolyn Phillips in her thread about Tomato Produce Greenhouse SFG on page 3 talks about making her own fertilizer but she is a commercial tomato grower, does anyone make fertilizer for home use ? I have used Miracle Grow for years on my roses but the curiosity is getting the best of me, can I make it myself. I also know that if it ain't broke don't fix it but I find myself collecting ingredients to try making my roses better, bigger and more better. Is this tinkeritis or am I on to something, if I harm the roses my wife won't like me for a while so I need some more information please. I was only going to apply my home brew to one rose then wait and see.

Compost.
Have you thought about trying some compost tea? I don't see how it could hurt. Just put some compost in a cotton tshirt and tie it up like a big tea bag, Then put that in a pail of water and let it sit a day or two.
