"Mom, is that smoothie for us or for the compost pile?"
We mostly only use the blender to make smoothies with, so when my daughters hear it going they get all excited and come running. I liked the idea I read on here to run kitchen scraps through a food processor or a blender before taking them out to the compost pile so they'll compost faster (thanks CarolynPhillips). This is especially helpful for crushing the eggshells. So now I make kitchen scrap smoothies! And now my three year old has begun asking me the title question when she sees me with the blender. It cracks me up.

I do that too! I find it keeps the pile damp too, so no more watering.

Lol. Too funny!
And that is a great idea. My freezer is stuffed with scraps for the next compost pile. I bet making a "smoothie" would really cut down on some of that bulky volume

I am my gardens worst enemy.

Yes mamachibi, I'm sure one of your posts was what got me into finally doing it too. I remember about the water added to blend things up means you're watering your compost pile at the same time as adding to it. Very convenient.
Newstart, just let them have a whiff of your first kitchen scrap smoothie. Phew!

I keep a food processor on the kitchen counter and things like vegetable scraps, banana peels, egg shells, and similar get ground and added to the container of coffee grounds already in the refrigerator. Every couple of weeks or so, the contents are put into the the Vermicomposter for the worms to feast on. Because its all preground, it makes their jobs easier.

One of my kids left a spoon hidden in the blender/smoothie and bent the blades out of shape. Think it just got a second life as the official compost blender, and now the perfect excuse to get a better one for the kitchen.

We bought what I felt was a good priced oster, the main seller for me was the fact it made the ice like snow Im so picky lol I think we paid 24 dollars for the oster at walmart. It gets its workout here.
