Wonderful job Efirvin!

Camp, I should do the sprinkle and press the seed down for my lettuce! I am thinking I may try the "intentional" winter sowing of my lettuce also. We should compare notes if we do it!

I harvested all my window sill cilantro and chard. It was a few inches tall and went into a shepherds pie.
Their pot was next to a pot of dianthus I had brought in from the garden to try to grow over the winter. I noticed too late that the dianthus had aphids that were really excited to find a predator free warm winter home. Mad The dianthus and the veggy pot's soil all went to the compost pile.
I will wait a little while and then make some more soil and plant the next batch of greens. If at first you fricaseed/ fry fry a hen.....
The Alpine strawberrys are sllllllooooooowwwwllllly growing still cheers

ANyone else got anything growing on the windowsills etc?

I bought Black Krim tomatoes at my mom and pop type garden center this year but mine did not do well. But all of my tomatoes did not do very well. Boz, those are some beautiful tomatoes and lettuce!

Well, I have been looking at my garden and trying to say goodbye. My hubby and I have decided to sell the house... affraid It is a beautiful home, 3400 square feet, a million dollar view (according to every appraiser that has been here) and my wonderful husband built it himself. I am just hoping to get this sold and be settled in a new home by planting time to help me get through this. I am much more attached to the house than hubby is. Weird, considering he built it... AAAAGH, I am going to need some strength for this.

Ooo, at least you can bag up your MM and compost pile and move them too.

Good luck on the move and I hope it happens soon so you have plenty of garden prep time! Wink

We will stay here, just moving to a different side of town, we want to get in a house with more of a yard and a smaller house payment. When we built it seemed like one thing after the next after the next like septic cost $25,000 rather than $7000 because of perculation here. We wanted to finish the basement and decks as we lived here and the bank said that was fine so when we finished everything that we planned and spent the money the bank says we have to finish the basement and decks before we can close!!! This was 1 WEEK BEFORE CLOSING! So we had to get an extention (another $6000). Then we had to scrape up everything we had to get it finished. Long story short we financed through a new bank in town with very inexperienced loan officers and we were young (30 & 23) so we believed what they told us, basically after we closed we had to get a home equity loan to make up for the basement and decks, then got stuck with PMI on our mortgage, and we are just sick of it. Sorry I am not really talking about my garden, just venting. Our mortgage ended up being $700 dollars more than planned because of misguidance from the bank and us being not knowing any better. We can afford it but some months it's all we can afford and it's gotten old.

I'll quit now, lol.

Turan, I am deffinatly packing the MM and compost with me! Hubby doesn't even think I am crazy either because he knows how much it would cost to replace haha!

It really must be hard going through all that. It makes a lot of sense to sell, downsize and have a larger yard for SFGing. I hope all goes well and quickly for you.

oh Cheyann I sure feel for you.
With financial situations I have left behind 3 gardens in the past 10 years. We call this house our final resting place. It is so hard to put all that work into getting a garden just the way you want it and then leaving it.... after the asparagus starts to grow.

Hopefully you will end up with a great yard for gardening. Smaller houses are so much easier to deal with too.

MUCH LUCK

Post  cheyannarach 1/20/2013, 12:41 pm

Thanks, this whole thing has just had a few more unexpected kinks. Basically no matter what we do I am going to be in trouble with someone. It's hard to explain in writing but if we sell I am starting to feel like we are going to be in the same boat as if we don't. Have you ever heard that it's never a good idea to do buisness with family, because I am starting so see why. I think I am just going to try to convince hubby to hold out a while, the PMI will drop off in less than 4 years and lower our mortgage $250 a month. I think hubby is just excited for a change on top of everything to where I am more concerned with my family being mad.

Does anyone have any good ideas to about where to get free fill?

Are there any new houses in the area, sometimes when they dig a basement, they have to get rid of that stuff.

A first day of working in the garden again. It feels so good Laughing
I mixed sand and compost in the wheel barrow and covered the bed that will have peas planted soon. I also got the trellis for them up.

My son took apart the old hoop house. It was kind of sad to see it come down. I am leaving its bed/foundation form. It will make a good 6x8 U shaped bed. This year I will plant it in lettuces and such.

I started digging the foundation trench for the new green house. This meant splitting up a Persian Yellow shrub rose. I hope the suckers I dug out will start a second bush. I am excited about this greenhouse, 8x12 and fitted doors and window vents! That shut! And open! And I assume fit! I sure hope so. I gather the trick is too make sure the foundation is square and level. Thankfully I have the OCD engineer to sic on that problem Laughing

Post  Lillyz 3/31/2013, 2:34 am

yesterday I took out the tomatoes/peppers/eggplants and a 2 other flats and put them in the teepee to get sun. I had bought some chicken wire to put around the veggie garden and tried to put that up (which I sorta did) to keep the dog out of the veggie area. I realize that now Im going to have to go back to home depot and buy some light weight fence posts because what I thought was going to work isnt working so well.

My diy project of making a strawberry tower from 5 gallon buckets, http://ucanr.org/sites/MGsSMSF/Tips/How_to_build_a_strawberry_tower/ didnt work out either. I did all the measurements according to the instructions, but there was no way that those 2 five gallon buckets are going to fit together... on to plan B...

I was expecting the strawberries in the mail by Saturday, but I guess I will probably/hopefully get them by Monday. Im a little concerned that the company sending them didnt mail them on Monday instead of Tuesday. They are going to be sitting in that box for who knows how long and I hope they live.

Sorry, just had to vent. guess I should go to sleep and everything will look better tomorrow.

I planted peas yesterday. Chinese Snow peas.
The garlic is up at last.
I got broccoli started on the window sill.
The Johny jump ups lived through the winter and are now blooming in the bed I had planted them as edging in. This year that bed will have broccoli. I think a living mulch of Johny Jump ups will be nice.

ITs April! YEHAW! Time to think about gardening for real and not just move stuffs around on paper tongue
