And braid them? There are garlic braiding videos on YouTube.

martha wrote:Pure luck, no skill, I apparently kept mine in perfect storage conditions. Still have some. Very, very sadly, I'm just now planting from what's left. I missed in the fall. There was a short window of opportunity between hard frost and snow cover that never went away. And time has evaporated this spring. It stinks that the most important times for gardening are when we are busiest at the restaurant, but I'd be a fool to complain about being too busy!
You know, I think I've read more than once that some people successfully plant garlic every month of the year. I wonder if you might want to try something like that out sometime and see how it works.
I missed my window in fall -- was aiming to plant after the first snow, but before the cold really settled in. Well, we were at record lows right away and it was too late; the timing was off and the ground was too hard. So next fall I won't try to time so perfectly. And I may plant some garlic long before fall.

Nice harvest sanderson. We are a couple months away here. This is the last bulb from last years harvest. An I though I had saved too much.

GWN, I think you will be very happy. I will always save some in the freezer. This time I'll freeze in in pre-cut pats of butter. With these arthritic hands it'll be easier and probably safer than sawing off pieces from the frozen log.

GWN, I don't think it's a volunteer, but I'm not positive. Would it make a difference in harvesting?GWN wrote:could this have been a volunteer garlic by any chance?e In which case it could be older than you think?

Southern Gardener,
I'm fairly new to growing garlic, too. However,my understanding is that they're ready for harvest when the leaves turn brown and fall over.

Re: Mary Mary quite contrary, how does your garlic grow?
Welp, THE garlic only has 1 1/2 brown leaves, and according to the article you need 3-4. So I looked around and found some that had 3-4 leaves! Here's one of them! Smells soooo good and the roots are amazing! Anyone else love to hear the sound of the roots when you pull stuff??
