Day 8 for me. I've got some sprouts in the Danvers Half Long square, but the Nantes square for carrot week is still sproutless.

Scratch that... I went out after work to check out the boxes. I now have Scarlet Nantes sprouts as well.

Day 12, carrots are definitely appearing, although the picture does not really do it justice so I won't post one.

Ah, that's part of the fun! Watching your progress
My little seedlings took a pretty nasty beating from the recent winds
I've still got more sprouting up every few days

Re: Carrot Week 2012!
Well, you couldn't see the boys' sprouts when I posted the other day...so here's another go at it.
Here's my younger son's square; he planted at least 50 seeds and told me he wants to let them grow to see what happens:
And here's my older son's square; he planted one per spot except in one location which has already shown the two sprouts:
The sprouts seem to be flopping over despite watering gently, and no wind like Rooster's getting.

Here's my sprouts today, growing nicely, I did get a bit sloppy with the seeds though so thinning definately required!

First leaves are very similar for many plants. That's why true leaves are so important!
If you find a resource, please start a new thread with the news!

WRT the bottom picture :- The top few inches looks rather dry from the picture .
Gently flood the whole bed using the hose pipe without any nozzles on , just lay the pipe in the bed , place the hose on a large plate or tray and weigh it down , check you are not going to wash any plants or seed away , then 1/4 turn the water on , then go and check it's still OK . If you can afford to , leave it on for a good ten minutes to really soak /flood the whole bed.

Re: Carrot Week 2012!
Well...of the 16 Scarlet Nantes spots planted, I have 10 sprouts! Ironically, of those on the south, there are 3 sprouts each, on on the north there are 2 each.
And of those intended to be "funny" (2-3 seeds per spot) only one has come up in those places! It will be interesting to see what happens.
If more pop up from this point, I will be surprised.

Re: Carrot Week 2012!
Okay...so, almost 20 days, and not a single sprout in the box I planted for "long" scarlet nantes. I do have some sprouts in the short box I planted, so I suppose those will have to be the contest carrots.
I did replant the box for long nantes. Can I have a bye?

Re: Carrot Week 2012!
We planted on April 18, less than half the seeds sprouted, and now they're slowly dying off. I have watered them the same as or more than I did the Tendersweet started two weeks earlier (it's been hot here), and the Tendersweet did much better. I don't know if it's the seeds we got or what, but we're just not having much luck with the Scarlet Nantes.

Re: Carrot Week 2012!
its almost day 22 for us.....the one sprout we had is still gone ( what would eat the sprout??) and there are no others showing.....when do you replant?
we are having a really hard time with carrots this year.....we have some planted in our SFG's and others in our new raised beds.....one type in our raised beds have all sprouted very well....we planted about 10 differnt types and the rest of them only had a couple germ.....
we over winted some carrots too....they are tall...over a foot...lush and green..but only about an inch of the top root end has grown and is orange....the rest is like a long white root.....then...the really skinny root part.....
sorry if this is not the right thread for our questions
hugs
