*@! cats!
Don't get me wrong, I like cats...once owned one myself. What I don't like are neighborhood cats who poop in my garden! Any ideas on how to discourage them from relieving themselves in my garden, short of putting up a fence?

A heady scent to boot!
Love the fork idea!

Moth balls are toxic and I would never recommend the random use of it in the vegetable garden.

Putting it around the outside of your boxes will work just as well. The smell will keep them away. It doesn't take much.
A friend grows all flowers, and uses it in her containers.
Then she started putting chicken wire on her lawn. They don't like the feel of the wire on their feet and stay of it, too.

The chicken wire thing is pretty much what I do to keep them out of my empty beds...only I use hardware cloth....I also built my bed up 14 inches high to keep the buggers from spraying the veg.
Works pretty well.

My cats climb chicken wire all day long. They don't seem phased one bit on how it feels to their paws.
Moth balls are toxic not only to most household pets and other animals, but also to humans.

I thought the neighborhood cats would get in my TT's but they don't just walk around below.
