One of My Cats is in ER!
Timmy, my 12-year-old toothless tabby tomcat, is in ER tonight, and the prognosis is not good (so far). Differential diagnoses include hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and malignancy.
He was doing quite well until a few days ago, when he virtually stopped eating and drinking. I took him to the vet yesterday and again today, and his blood work was normal.
However, there is now fluid in his lungs, his body temp is somewhat cool, and his heart rate is 78. He was breathing through his mouth late this afternoon, so I scooped him up and rushed him to the ER.
Any thoughts, prayers, or meditations are appreciated!

Re: One of My Cats is in ER!
Timmy's condition deteriorated so rapidly that I had to make the decision to have him euthanized. I'm beside myself with grief.

Oh Donna I am so sorry for your loss. This is so painful for another cat lover to hear. Virtual hugs coming your way. I know this is extremely hard. I've been there. Please hang in there.

Donna - My heart aches for you. We lost our dear Jewels to HCM just a year ago. Like Timmy, her symptoms were mild until suddenly, then rapid deterioration. We had to make the same decision. We still cry at times. I will cry with you.

Donna, I'm not sure what to say except I'm sorry. I know the pain you're going through in losing your "child." I've been through it several times and still hurt many years later.
Think about the good times and the love you shared with each other. And keep talking the pain out. Know that all of us are here for you!

Re: One of My Cats is in ER!
Thanks, everyone. Frankly, I don't know how I'm going to cope.
At least I have two other cats, and I sense they know that Timmy is gone. They cuddled with me all night, and early this morning, Sterling appeared to perform a "funeral" for Timmy by scratching the carpet in the bedroom exactly on the sport where Timmy spent so much time these last few days.
His legacy is the many wonderful memories I have of his affection and antics. Indeed, he was a high-spirited character.

So sorry, donna. Many of us know how you feel having lost our own furbabies.
It is such a pity that they do not live long lives, and those years go so fast.

Re: One of My Cats is in ER!
With all of the animals we have had over our lifetimes - not one had the same personality or relationship with us and each has a special place in our hearts. It is SO hard to say good bye. Our hearts are with you as you work your way through the grief.
I was just telling my daughter yesterday that not a day goes by that I don't think about "Harrison," our 12 year old dog we had to put to sleep this time last year. We never get over it but we do get through it...
Sending {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and prayers your way.

Re: One of My Cats is in ER!
There are so many good things to say about having a pet. It seems as if they weave themselves into the fabric of our families. Ever the dedicated friend; always seem to know when to show up and purr away your problems. It's hard to face such a deep void in one's life. I'm so so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear that, Donna. I've lost both dogs and cats and still remember the pain of every loss, and I'll never forget loving every one of them. I hope you weather this storm and remember not just the loss but how lucky you were to have such a good friend.

Re: One of My Cats is in ER!
Thanks, Marc. This loss brought on a particularly nasty panic attack that's left me weak, sore, and stiff. Only one or two hours' sleep last night.
Fortunately, I've had a few calls from friends and a visit from one of my neighbors, which did help.
I really do appreciate your support and that of the other forum members.

Re: One of My Cats is in ER!
Some how I find it helpful to plant wild flowers/bulbs over the graves of my gone pets. Maybe because I know where they are, in the garden, under a bush, at peace with the world.
My sympathy for your loss.

Re: One of My Cats is in ER!
Turan,
I'm considering that. Right now, though, I'm leaning toward having him cremated, scattering some of his ashes here and there in the yard, and burying the rest under a stone that says, "Cats leave paw prints on our hearts."

Re: One of My Cats is in ER!
We had our 3 boys cremated. We will be as well. Then we'll be scattered together.
