I just built a 5x1 table top that I'm going to use for a salad garden and plan on keeping it on the deck by the kitchen for convenience although there is one problem...Cats. There are a few cats outside our house that stick around and I'm wondering if anybody else has had this problem of keeping the cats from jumping up into it. I was thinking about making a barrier around the edge of it kinda like the fence you see at the top of the fence around a prison or airport. Any other ideas?

I used string as the grid in my TT and the first time my outside cat jumped up she landed on the string. That was last year and the most she has done since was to stand on her hind legs and peek in. LOL some people use plastic forks, they stick them in tines up all around the garden to keep cats out. You may have no trouble at all if there is not a way for them to jump down into them, the neighborhood felines realy don't even seem interested in mine at all. They just stroll through the yard completely ignoreing them.

I have two barn cats that were interested in a brand new tt when it was covered with a tarp. They jumped up, walked and rolled on the tarp. Once I planted and put on the critter cover they both ingnored the box. I have them on every box due to my cats and the country critters that roam through here and wouldn't garden without critter covers. In addition, the other boxes on the ground have hardware cloth on the bottoms too.
