Hello, everyone -

I live in Morrisville, Pa. (which is right across the river from Trenton, N.J.). This will be my and my husband’s third year here, and we’re planning to build raised beds this year since the soil is so full of river rocks. (Seems like it’s 50% pebbles!) We’ve had a tough time growing veggies. I’ve been reading the All New Square Foot Gardening book, and I’d love to try it.

Favorite things to grow: tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, eggplant, lima beans, wax beans

Experience level: advanced beginner?

Gardening concerns: finding SFG soil-mix ingredients; the upcoming need to keep the local woodchuck from munching on our garden plants

I'm looking forward to seeing what other people here are doing.

Best regards,
Erika

Post  Too Tall Tomatoes 3/7/2012, 7:12 am

Hey now.....a fellow Pennsylvanian.

Welcome to the forum.

My favorite things to grow are tomatoes. A 12 gauge shotgun is a GREAT way to keep that woodchuck out of your garden. Twisted Evil
Seriously though, two years ago I had a problem with an animal eating my tomatoes. I suspected a groundhog(I saw one across my back yard living at my neighbor's house) so I borrowed one of those have-a-heart animal traps from a neighbor of mine. In the mean time, I discovered that my tomatoes were being eaten by voles(that's another story) but I left that trap there because I caught a rabbit or two. Soon after that I did catch the groundhog. All I did was bait the trap with some lettuce or cabbage.
