I am brand new to SFG and have read the All New Square Foot Gardening book....quite the read. So I'm very excited about this. I've created my first garden plan and would like some critique. I live about 40 miles northwest of Dallas, Texas, so weather/temps are quite the issue.

Below is a link to my garden plan:

The tomatos, peppers, corn, etc. are the north side of the box. Again, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome from the far north in Maine. Since I know nothing about your weather and whether placing your vining crops on the north side is most beneficial or not, I can't advise except to say I like your plan. For me, I would have to have the north on the left side of your plan. For you southerners, I'm not sure. You get some mighty hot summers which may make a big difference in your layout. I'm sure one of our many Texans can advise properly.

Welcome and enjoy your new garden.

If I understood it, the left side of the plan is north. I like it too. I think it makes sense! Well done.

New to SFG and idea for first garden plan 654548 Zenful I like your plan and your name I live in florida zone 9a so it is hotter here. I must provide after noon shade for herbs like basil seeing you'er in zone 7a that may not be an issue for you. I have never grown corn but there are folks he that do so they will be better to advise you on that. I especialy like that you have incorporated marigolds in your garden. If you let one or more of you basil plants flower they will attract tons of benefical insects to your garden.

You may want to flip the location of the tomato/basil on the bottom L
area, because you'll have to reach through the tomato plant to harvest
basil. In my Zone 5a, I am harvesting basil before tomatoes.

Also consider switching the basil and marigold positions again for
accessibility reasons. You'd be reaching through the marigold or the
pepper plant to reach the basil.

We used to live in Rowlett, and have moved three times (further north each time) since. I wasn't SFG in TX, but we considered our garden a two season garden - spring and fall. Perhaps with lots of watering it is possible to keep things growing in the heat of the summer, but we let everything (lawn included) die off in peak heat. I remember harvesting peppers and green tomatoes a week before Thanksgiving only because of frost threat.
