It's been in the 50's here for weeks. We have had one dusting of snow, a couple of frosts (back in November) and I am going insane trying to hold out until the end of February to put in my early spring garden.

The problem is that we usually get about two days of "spring" sandwiched between the last frost and the first 90 degree day. Kinda precludes yummy things like peas, broccoli and cabbage.

So, do I risk it and sow now? Is this warmer-than-usual weather really supposed to hold?

The weather has been like that here too. And no, it usually doesn't hold, but I have planted 4 squares of sugar snap peas Monday and today sowed some lettuce under the row cover. I have some lettuce that I started in the Fall & it is still holding its own. I suspect it will put on a growth spurt pretty soon if the weather stays mild. We've had no snow (which is normal) and our lowest temp was down in the teens a couple of nights, now it is in the 50's daytime, 36 at night.

I have some cabbage and brussels sprouts that I planted too late in the Fall to do any good, but they are still growing well & starting to head, although very slowly. I'm hoping I will beat the cabbage loopers since they are doing so well.

My main concern is that a few of my strawberries are starting to bloom & I'm afraid I will lose those. I'll try covering them with leaves to protect them, but we'll just have to wait & see.

My philosophy is that seeds are cheap & I might get lucky.

I like that philosophy. You are right. What am I worrying about? If I plant even half a packet of peas (I was thinking more like four plants anyway) and they ALL die, that still leaves me half a packet which is more than enough for later. And in the meantime I won't be going absolutely bananas!

Well, gosh. When you all put it that way....there's really no reason to not plant something? If only the seeds would get here. Smile
