ROOKIE TOPIC XVII Seed Starting Dates
1. Determine your average last frost date. An easy to use web site based on your zip code is
DAVES GARDEN FREEZE FROST DATES
2. Some of us take chances and use the 50% date (There is a 50% chance that you will get a frost after this date). Others want to play it safe and choose to use the 10% date (There is only a 10% chance that you will have a frost after this date.)
3. Next determine the number of weeks before your last frost date those particular seeds need to be started.
4. Starting at your last frost date, count back the number of weeks for that plant to determine your seed starting date. Using a standard calendar for this purpose is really easy.
The following seed starting chart assumes a last frost date of April 16 and uses the weeks before or after the last frost date recommended by Mel in his ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING book, pages 253 and 254.

Great chart! I can use it as is since my LFD is 4/19. I don't mind putting the cold crops out at 50% since they don't mind frost. I'm guessing the dates for cabbage include kale and collards?

Re: ROOKIE TOPIC XVII Seed Starting Dates
Bump again!
Here's mine:
Each winter, on average, your risk of frost is from December 18 through February 14.
This year we got a hard frost in November -- wiped out all of my summer crops, including at least 100 tomatoes.
