Winter Tomatoes
Due to the strange weather in Tennessee this year I was able to harvest 6lbs. of tomatoes out of the greenhouse today. A few weren't quite as ripe as we usually let them get before we pick them, but it is supposed to freeze tonight and didn't want to chance loosing them. There is still another 9 to 10 lbs. of green and barely ripe tomatoes that I left to see if they make it.
Re: Winter Tomatoes
Congrats Richard on the harvest! I'm down in tampa and I have several plants working their way towards some beautiful fruit - hopefully the good luck makes it way down here. Hope you do well in the freeze!

Winter tomatoes
Kgreseth,
I live real close to you in Dunedin. I have five tomato plants that are loaded with tomatoes. We ate the first ones last night. I am finding out that summer is not the "growing season" here that I had in West Virginia.

Re: Winter Tomatoes
Both of ya'll could easily garden year round with a little protection. I'm jealous. When I lived in that zone in Texas I didn't garden and I missed out on alot of good food.
Re: Winter Tomatoes
I will try gardening under a little shade cloth during the hot months. This past summer, everything burnt up when the temps felt like 500 degrees daily (lol).

Re:Still Gardening in MD
That's great. Winter carrots are so good. We are still getting summer stuff out of the greenhouse as well. It has to get below 21 outside to freeze in there and those temps are still no where in sight. More good food.
Re: Winter Tomatoes
Both of those pics are beautiful! The best soup and sauce I made this year came from green tomatoes that ripened on the sideboard. Matter of fact, I think one of the soups had chopped, frost-kissed kale. You are a blessed man.
