How to store seeds

I have started get a nice collection of seeds. What is the best way to store these? I would like to be able to have a nice stock pile of many different seeds. Just want to make sure they do not go bad. DO seeds go bad?!? Im not sure but any advice on on to do this would be great.

I store mine in covered glass jars and baggies in the crisper of my fridge. Not the freezer because they can develop moisture in the freezer (I got this info from Mel's monthly tips).

You can place several opened or sealed seed packets in each of these containers. Place a desiccant (anti-moisture pack) in each jar and baggy..... made with tissue and a teaspoon of powdered milk, rolled up and stapled shut. Change desiccant every 6 months.

Seeds can keep well for years this way.

I throw mine in snack size baggies, empty pill bottles, paper envelopes and then throw 'em all tagged and into a cardboard box that is supposed to live on the bottom shelf of the book shelf, but inevitably circulates through the house until planting/planning season.

Hmmmm.....if I consult the SFG "bible," I see on page 117-118 this:

"How to Store Seeds

What is the ideal storage condition for seeds? It is just the opposite of the moisture and warmth that make them sprout. You'll want to store them in a cool, dry place--the driest, coldest place in your home. Some people freeze their seeds. But I find they get moisture even if they are in a zip-lock bag because it never seems to be totally airtight. I prefer refrigerating them in a wide-mouth jar with a screw lid. Label your containers and store them in the refrigerator on the back shelf. In each jar place a desiccant packet from a film container, or medicine vial, or add a little powdered milk wrapped in a tissue to soak up any excess moisture in the jar."

Me? I put them in ziploc baggies and squeeze as much air from them as I can. I, then, fold them up and put them in leftover medicine containers (the little orange ones) with the childproof caps. I put them in my garage refrigerator. Once I get closer to needing them, I move them to the freezer for a week or so, then pop them in the ground or my favorite method....vermiculite trays.

I have a mason jar attachment for my vacuum sealer, so I'm wondering if the best thing would be to store them, vacuum sealed, in a mason jar in the fridge. Thoughts on the vacuum sealing?

My fridge has a small middle drawer, just about the size of a seed packet. Whoever designed this fridge at LG must have been a gardener.
