Getting zucchini to ripen
If I put plastic sheeting over the zucchini plant will it help the baby zucs to grow to adult size? I'm in STL and while we have had some warm days it isn't nearly as warm as zucchini likes it.

Are the fruits still quite small?

Yes the fruits are quite small but do appear to be growing very slowly. Earlier in the summer when we had the hot weather they grew very quickly which is why I am wondering if more heat will help them.

My summer squash has slowed as well, I think mine are being slow because of the weather and the much cooler evenings, but also because I'm not watering like I was . The fruit is mostly water. If you top dress with compost and water, they get a boost.

slow squash
Watch out for powdery mildew on the under side of squash leaves it slows the plants production down, yank affected leaves as soon as possible without taking too many down. Keep over spray from watering to a minimum. Over watering strees makes plants susceptible to mildew. Cover to avoid heavy dew mornings most of the time plant recovers quickly depends on the weather.

Re: Getting zucchini to ripen
I am removing plants that have succumbed to powdery mildew.
Can I compost them? Will that encourage the disease where I use the the compost, or will it have died during the decomposition of the plant material?
What about the soil where the plants grew? Can it be used again, or should I dispose of it?
