New square foot garden
Plan next spring two square foot raised garden box's. One 4x4x6 & 4x4x10.
How much cu. ft. of garden mix would be needed for both raised box's?
thanks you
JB

Re: New square foot garden
Welcome!
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

How much MM?
4' x 4' x 6/12' = 8 cu.ft.
4' x 4' x 10/12' = 13-1/3 cu. ft.
21.3 cu. ft. total.
I'd make up at least 24 cu ft to top off squares that settle.

Re: New square foot garden
John, So glad to have you join us! Great forum with lots of friendly, helpful people!
Do get the All New Square Foot Gardening book if you haven't already read it. Also, it would be a wonderful help to you, I think, if you'd read this post https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t7452-mel-s-mix-how-strong-is-your-backbone about mixing the Mel's Mix - the special soil-less planting mix that is used in sfgs. It's very important to get your 5 different kinds of compost (or use your own homemade compost) since those of us who have skimped on that have suffered some gardening problems. Some of us who have inadvertently messed up the proportions of the vermiculite and peat moss to compost have also had problems.
Since you have a while before spring, it would be great to set up your own compost bin if you can - that way you can use your own compost instead of having to rely on purchased composts!
It will just help immensely if you get the Mix correct right from the start. It's a wonderful planting medium if you get it right! Post often and don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have - people just love to help each other on this forum!
