Zucchini or pumpkin??? Gina_s16

Help - What is this? I did not plant it. It showed up in the flower bed so I let it go. It is 5-1/2 pounds and it didn't start out long like a zucchini, it was immediately round. Did I just kill a pumpkin or is this a round variety of zucchini?? I'm Such a Newbie!

Lol, how cute!! Well, if I remember correctly, zucchini and pumpkins are very close relatives, and can cross polinate. So you may actually have a zumpkin Laughing Cut it open and take some pictures! I'd love to see what's inside, and that'll probably help us know what it is.

A zumpkin you suggest? That is hilarious. Or a Pucchini like the Italian composer? Have two more outside. Whatever it is it's going to be in a casserole very soon. A zumpkin or pucchini casserole. Anyone else have a suggestion?

I say pumpkin and it will probably, eventually, turn orange.

Thank you both for your input. Zumpkin or pumpkin, I will leave the other two on the vine and see if they stay green or turn orange. As for the one in the picture I'll open it up and see if there's anything interesting to write about.

Zucchini or pumpkin??? Gina_s17

The Zumpkin/Pumpkin/Zucchini??? Autopsy is complete. What do you think?? I can tell you it faintly smelled like a pumpkin. But I have to admit I never smelled a raw zucchini so would they smell the the same? What is this thing?

My vote is for a winter squash of some kind. Can't wait to see if they turn orange like a pumpkin or tan like a butter nut. I guess they could stay green like an acorn volunteers are soooooooo cool.

I too have grown what I thought was zucchini and now it has turned orange. I used several before this to make zucchini bread and it came out great. They grew out of my compost pile in the back yard and in my front yard. I actually had two plants in one in the front and grew two traditional pumpkins and then what I thought was zucchini on the other part. In both cases they grew wild.[quote]
