Year 2.... Year 3.... Mel's Mix
My wife and I started our SFG this year and have been very happy with the results. I know Mel's Mix was the key to the success, but it was costly to get all the ingredients together.
My question is what needs done next year, and the year after, and after for my Mel's Mix. Does it need "redone" or remixed with something else to it "good" so to speak (sorry, still learning)?

Re: Year 2.... Year 3.... Mel's Mix
Have I already told you already that the only moving traffic violation I have ever received, on four wheels, was in Medina, OH when I was 16?!
I'm finishing up my fifth year of SFG, by the book, and I'm sorry to say, it does get kind of boring cause there is so little to do. As long as you add your 5 way compost after each harvest, that's all there is.
I have a dedicated box just for carrots. After four years, it just seemed like I should be doing something. So I pulled out the top half of MM and replaced it with fresh. The carrots this year aren't growing any differently (a good thing). I used some of the old MM to patch some bad spots in the lawn. First, the nutrients in the MM leached into the surrounding grass, so it looked like the dark green grass around where a female dog urinated. Once the grass seed germinated, I've never seen grass grow so fast. Obviously, the MM was far from spent!
How about using the extra time to make more boxes?!

And lets say I'm not composting.....
I want to! I just really have so little space to put it where the home owners association wouldn't make an issue of it.

Just a suggestion, get a worm bed and make 'worm castings'. It may not make enough, but will help to compost kitchen scraps and paper from the house(mine love tp rollers cardboard) I have mine in a 18 gal. tote from wally world, no smell and the hoa should not be looking in your bins!
