Good morning from the Charlotte, NC area!
Good morning, everyone!
I'm a new gardener AND new to SFG, so I'm glad this forum is here. We finally have our own home after bouncing around the world while DH was in the military, so having our own, permanent location is exciting... and finally lets me try gardening (including landscaping).
I've had some raised beds that I constructed this summer and now I'm working on creating the grids and planning the fall planting for a true SFG. Woohoo!
Suggestions on what and when to plant are greatly appreciated... we're actually in South Carolina right on the border with Charlotte, so we bump up against zone 8a.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to SFG! I am TOTALLY not in your zone, so I have no idea what kind of season you have left, but check out the Regional Forums and you will find lots of help with what you can still plant this year and when to start next spring. Throw out some seeds and have fun!

Welcome to the Forum TeacherAmy!
Unfortunately I am not from the south either, but like Goosegirl stated check out the regional forum along with the basic forums for info.
I found Burpee.com to be helpful with what and when to plant in my area. I also went to my county extension for gardening, etc. Mine is located at Rutgers University in NJ. You can google.
Best of luck!

NC State University is an agriculture college and had some sites that should offer help.
