Super Hot--Water Plants

It's super hot in GA. How often should I water my plants?

I only water 1 time per day, but, I try to water in the evening, after the sun goes down. that way the plants have a few hrs of moisture til the sun is baking us again.
This eve watering is supposed to cause fungus disease on plants, but I've had no problems.

Hi April, while I am no expert, I'll offer this: I was told a while back to keep an eye on the soil conditions and water based on that rather than on a schedule.

During normal conditions I water every 2 days, always in the AM. This year however we are having a drought and heatwave in Southern Ontario. Last week I was transplanting one of my 4 year olds Squash plants into my garden when I realized that I had dug down like 4 inches and the earth was bone dry. I am now deep watering daily until the rain returns.

Sure enough every morning when I check, the ground is dry an inch down, so I need to water again. I guess the earth is like a sponge in these conditions until we get a saturating rain.

So I would water based on what you see.

I woke up late today due to not sleeping well and didn't get to water my garden til 10am. I watered more than I usually do. I went out at 2:45pm and it was bone dry.I super saturated everything and made sure to stay off the leaves afraid they would fry with water and sun hitting them. I'm in Cincy and right now (4:30pm) its a heat index of 114!!!!! I will have to water a third time tonight!

Yep I stick my finger in the MM down to the second knuckle and if it is dry I water. Sometimes that means twice a day.
