water bottles to water box while I'm away?
Besides for asking neighbors, and drip irrigation... how can I set up a quick self watering system when I can't be in the garden for a few days?
Can regular size water bottles be placed upside down in each square, or every other square? or would the water run right through the soil?
I need to make a quick system with stuff that I have in the house... no running to home depot this time. THANK YOU!!!! =)

Some folks use inverted 2 liter water bottles stuck in the garden soil every few few feet. A mulch will certainly help to retain moisture. I'm thinking of shredded bark, dried leaves or old newspapers if you have nothing else.

Some people are concerned about plastic bottles that are not BPA free that sit out in the hot sun releasing their poison...well.. just a thought.

llama mamma, thank you for posting. i am very concerned about BPA and did not think about that!
I think I do need to buy drip irrigation for when I go away for a week or so here and there. is there a concern about BPA and other chemicals in those?

Your welcome and omg I hadn't thought about possible BPA in the drip irrigation plastics? Anyone know about that???
