Toad/frog okay? Empty Toad/frog okay?

Post  JustMe 7/22/2011, 1:20 am

Yesterday when watering my SFG, I saw a small toad or frog hopping in the bed.

DH said he's seen some back there when mowing. We have a pond near us but it's 1/2 acre away, so we're wondering if they are hanging out in the SFG.

Are frog/toads okay in the garden? It was a nice surprise and I'm glad I saw it out of the corner of my eye.

i have even seen a youtube video with a large green house gardener that will bring in frogs to his green house!.....

some will put in a small pond to house them as well....i believe they are great hunters in the garden Very Happy

toads and frogs will eat an amazing number of insects. Lots of gardeners I know will take a ceramic flower pot and turn it upside down (making sure there is a low spot in the soil to allow easy access) to make a "toad hall".

I took an old terra cotta pot, busted a hole at the top of one side, turned it upside down, put a rock over the hole that was now on top (the drain hole on the bottom) and set it in my flower bed. I usually have lizards in my flower bed. I also keep a tuna can full of water in there. While watering the other day I saw a toad in there, he came hopping out of the house when I was watering, so it works.

Yay! I'm not sure what I would have done if they are considered a nuisance. Glad we're not the only ones enjoying our SFG.
