Newbie in Oregon
Hiya everyone!
I'm new to the forum, new to gardening in Oregon, but not new to gardening (in California San Jose area previously) and I've been a fan of SFG for years.
I just got a copy of Eliot Coleman's Four-Season Harvest today, and spent most of the day devouring it!
This is my first year with a garden here in Klamath County.... and I didn't get it started early enough. Methinks I won't have much in the way of tomatoes this year, but oh well.
I prefer long beds to squares, so I have 5 beds 9'x3' one of them dedicated to perennials like asparagus and rhubarb. and I was so excited to find all my beans, beets and chard have broken the soil surface!
Tonight we had a salad of spinach, baby kale, and snow peas... so things are starting to hop.

Re: Newbie in Oregon
Hi Britesea and welcome! Yay for more PNW gardeners!
I am new to gardening and only just got my first bed filled with Mel's Mix, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you and other four season gardeners do so I can get started!

, Britesea, good to see another Oregonian here. It'll be fun to see how your microclimate produces compared to ours up here near the Washington border. Already I envy you your warm weather that tomatoes like! Keep us up on your progress. Nonna (St. Helens, OR)

Garden experiments
I didn't have enough Mel's Mix for all my beds, so some are going to just be well amended soil. Should be interesting to see the differences.
I've been reading through the Four Season Harvest, and I'm so inspired! I'm going to at least build a couple of cold frames for this winter, so I can have some fresh salads and such. We also have a community greenhouse in our little townlet, so maybe I can try a greenhouse tomato this winter?
Has anyone grown favas? I'd like to try them, but I haven't found a lot of info on them. Should I plant them the same time as my peas?

Re: Newbie in Oregon
Britesea,
So really nice to have you join us. Glad you found the SFG method for gardening. Have you finished reading the ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING book? Hope so, because it is full of easy to undertand information.
Elliot Coleman has a lot of good ideas that can be easy used with a SFG.
Sounds like you are off to a good start, and we certainly want to hear how you are doing. If you could share pictures, we would love it.
Again, Welcome, and don't ofrget to check out the PNW Regional Forum.
