Need shallot help please %3Ca%20href=Need shallot help please 5795033014_298c6849b7_z"

i planted shallots 6-8 weeks ago, they looked great up till 3 or so weeks ago when the ends started turning yellow, wilting, and they seemed to stop growing. to me they look the way they should when theyre almost read to pic, but they havent grown for very long or gotten too big although the actual shallots in soil from what i can see have split many times and seem to be a decent size. any ideas?

Can you get an overhead photo? Have you done anything else to that bed, like fertilize or anything? They may actually be almost done! WOW!! Very nice! I am not too much farther north from you and I put my shallots in about 7 weeks ago. They are still going, thankfully, because they have not bulbed out yet, but they are getting there.
Here is another nice write-up about Shallots.

Shawn, here's a thread that made me want to grow shallots, and I've never used them. They are too expensive here to even buy.

Very nice! They are coming along, I would suggest allowing them a bit more time (a week or 2) to mature, you will know they are ready to lift when the foliage has yellowed and withered. Allow them to cure for a week in a shaded area such as a porch, break the bulbs apart and examine them. The ones to use first are the ones with any bruises or soft spots. You can store shallots by braiding and hanging them or removing the dried foliage and putting the bulbs in a net bag. Hold back the largest bulbs for your next planting. You may be able to plant them in late summer and get another harvest before winter, or just save them for next spring.

Well Done!! Very Happy

I wrote an article for the Forum's Friday Rookie Topic here:
https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t7360-friday-s-rookie-topic-vi-shallots

You can use young shallots just like green onions, but they need to be at a certain stage if you want to store them. There are two things to looks for: One is the yellowing/dying tops, which do not have to be completely yellow, but about half yellowed is better. The second indication is the outer skins above ground will be papery. Check out the above link for more details.

Shawn, what variety are you growing? If it's a smaller Dutch yellow type, they may not get much larger and you'll soon be able to harvest them for storage.
