The spring garden is winding down

I pulled up all but one square of the bolting bok choy today. Will cut it down tomorrow for dinner. The peas in the chairtop garden and the 1st planting in the TT are done for. Pulled them out and added to the compost pile. Gave the spinach a haircut yesterday, but it was also starting to bolt so will see what a few days does and probably pull it up this weekend. Broccoli is done for only 1 more tiny head even trying. Time for it to go. Mustard Spinach went a few weeks ago. Mixed lettuce is gone, but the red sail in another box and 3 buttercrunch heads are hanging on. I should have salads until I leave town. Collards, kale, turnip greens and mustard greens are still going strong. Pulled a few carrots today. They were about 5" long. Been using the onions in my salads. Only a few left. I cut and froze a few packages of collards, spinach, kale, mustard greens and turnip greens this week and plan to do more next week. I've got 2 cukes and 2 peppers that somehow I missed when digging up and transporting stuff to my son for plant sitting. I may try to dig them out and take to my daughter. She has a big row garden and can find a home for them. Plan to take the herb pots to her along with my house plants. My truck will will like a rolling nursery. Just hope I can find room for my suitcases. i'll clean out the bed the best I can and then be ready to start a fall garden when I return. I've already started planning. Ordered winterbor and red winterbor kale seed and some shallots from Territorial Seed. You just can't keep a gardener from planning can you?

I am transitioning, too. I have kept my lettuces, though. Those guys won't usually bolt on me here. I have pulled my spinaches and a cauliflower. I will only get shoots from my first broccoli harvest from here and then that plant will go. My peas are still blooming like crazy, but their days are numbered, too.

Then it's all about tomatoes, peppers, cukes, and my salads. Once I get my beans, I'll be thinking of loading up for fall/winter. I plan to have 48 squares of lettuces, carrots, and spinaches by fall frost. And, I hope to make it well past Thanksgiving before needing to hit the grocery store for any salad greens. We'll see. It'll be here before we know it.
