Sorry guys. I have a couple of Mortgage Lifter tomato plants in my SFG that are really growing. There are several low branches onn each plant that are lying on the MM. Can I cut those off? They each have a leaf or two at the end of the branch.

I would cut them off....a lot of folks cut everything from the soil up about 12 inches. It won't hurt the plant for sure.

Yes, cut them off. You want good air circulation down there and you also don't want water splashing on the lower branches from the soil. There are soil borne diseases, like wilt, that lurk in the soil.

yep, it's snip time. My dear neighbor/cheerleader say "I'm going to take those sissors away from you." She grows flowers and just does'nt get it. Very Happy She cringes evey time I prune off those pretty leaves. They are pretty, healthy plants BECAUSE I cut so much off.
