Plant spacing? Empty Plant spacing?

Post  wvmedic 5/12/2011, 10:20 pm

I am going to buy the new SFG book, it will however have to wait for two weeks as I have spent all my money on my MM and plants. I called today and checked with a local book store and they carry it.

We planted eight tomato plants and eight bell pepper plants today. We bought four cucumber plants, four watermelon plants and some half runner seeds. We built two one foot by four foot boxes and I plan to plant the cucumbers and watermelon plants one plant per square in those. But I'm not sure how many Half runner beans to plant per square.

Dose my plan sound ok, and could someone help me with the number of green beans per square?

Jeff,

Your cucumbers can go two to a square if trellised. To be honest, someone else will need to help you with the watermelon as I have never grown them, but Mel does recommend one plant for each two squares for trellised melons in general.

Half runner and pole beans can go 8 per square. Think two rows of four, parallel to the trellis.

Furbalsmom, thank you very much for the info on the beans. After I posted earlier my Wife told me she was mistaken, she bought four strawberry and four watermelon plants. The place where we got two of our compost components, horse and decomposed mulch which the owner gave us for free. Had flats for ten dollars plant and or flowers, so we got eight marigolds and the rest plants. Now with the mix up in plants I will need to get some cucumber seeds.
