Plant spacing next to trellis
Hello, I tried searching for this question but was unable to find the info I was looking for. If I am growing vegetables on a trellis (cucumbers, squash, etc) am I able to plant something else right up against the trellis (like a caged tomato), or do I need to preserve the whole square at the base of the trellis for the plant that is growing up the trellis? Thanks so much for any help!

The simple answer is "yes". The longer answer is "it depends". I plant smaller things like radishes, lettuce, or spinach next the fence wire I have the cucumbers growing on. In the heat of summer, the small plants enjoy the shade of the cucumber vines growing up the fence wire. But, I wouldn't plant space hog plants such as kale, card, etc., or heavy feeders such as cabbage next to the trellis.
