THIS IS WORKING!!!! We have had a ton of rain, the weather has been alternating between low 40s to high 60s even getting into the 80s once. I have not been out in the garden and never even got around to planting my carrots Sad. But yesterday I was out there and boy was I surprised at what I saw. I carefully plucked a few seedlings that were close together and moved them to bare spots. As I admired and tended to my boxes I looked over at the shared plot where I used to attempt to grow a few rows and it is entirely overrun with weeds. This is always the point where I start to get overwhelmed. But my little boxes were so clean and perfect.

This is my lettuce/spinach/brussels spouts/broccoli raab/snap pea box. I just love my little snap pea squares looking so hardy and inspired to grow!

This is my cleaning out the fridge box where I planted shallots and potatoes that have long past their use by dates in my kitchen, but they are doing wonderfully in my boxes.

I still have a lot of empty squares in my deep box. I was planning on doing carrots in the middle three squares, and I am in the process of mixing more mel's mix to add more depth to the center for carrots. I hope that the shallots have enough growing depth. If I start to build up soil around the greens will that help them or hurt them? They are in about 6" of soil right now, but the box is 12" tall so I have room to add more.

Those boxes look wonderful. I too have 12" deep boxes but only 6" to 8" of soil in each. Since this is my first attempt of SFG I'm sure someone will chime in with the adding soil question. I would like to know as well. Great Job!!!!! cheers

I spy .... a triangle trellis Very Happy ...... I love those things.

Neat idea straddling two squares with it.

Im still considering making a "plus size" SFG box with oversized squares & putting one of those in each square.

About the trellis: I have another one, but I figured one should be enough for 2 squares of peas and I'll save the other for the new box I am hoping to have ready by Mother's Day when I do my summer planting. The snap pea farthest to the right (the tallest one) was starting to cling to the string I used to grid my box. I might have to stick a stake near that one to keep it from growing along my grid lines.

The first box has Broccoli Raab in the 4 center squares and I couldn't figure out why the two closer to the North side of the box was fairing better than the other 2. Thank goodness I kept notes on my Garden Tracker App. The Healthier plants were from a company called Pagano that I bought last year from a garden center. The smaller two are Burpee seeds that I bought this year. I bought new seeds this year because I didn't take much care in storing last years leftovers and I wasn't sure how they would turn out.
Apparently, they are turning out pretty good!

I just planted some carrots in the center square of the tall box (might be too late but I figure it's worth a shot). I added more Mel's Mix to all of the empty squares to fill them, and sprinkles a little bit around the shallots. I also decided to start building up around the potatoes although I don't know if they were quite the right height yet. I transplanted some dill that I had growing on the window sill (from a growing bag kit). It grew wonderfully for a while, then I forgot about it and it was near death when I put it in the garden yesterday. We shall see if it comes back. I also planted a few more broccoli raab seeds.

I am really enjoying my garden this year. From now on I am Square Foot and Container Gardening it all the way!

Your garden is looking so good!

For my peas, I placed strings attached to my trellis to lay over the square of pea shoots in the hopes they will latch on to the strings instead of on my grids. I know they will take a bit of training at first, but hope this will lead them in the right direction.
