Brand New SF Garden!!! Thanks for looking!

There it is! Finished putting it together today... for the most part... Wanted to start a garden this year at my family's new home, and started with a traditional single row garden... I ran across all of this square foot gardening stuff on pinterest and youtube, while looking for gardening tips... Went out and bought the book, and was HOOKED!!! Completely redid our entire garden... Before there was SO MUCH wasted space, and was going to be a pain to keep all of the weeds out... NOW, it is so much better, cleaner, and less work!!!
First Box!

Tomatoes!! We had made these cages before we decided to do the SFG, so we kept them for this year.. Next year I will train them to go up a trellis!
Second Box!

There are TAM jalapenos in the middle... And cucumbers on the left end.. Still need to put up their trellis! So much more space to grow more produce!!!
Third Box!

Two rows of sweet corn is planted in the two closest rows... The two plants on the ends are butternut squash... Going to train them up the trellis!
Please share comments and/or advice please!!!
Thank You!!

You can plant multiple squares of some things if you want. If you have to much you could always freeze the extra for off season. I was eating frozen tomatoes & beans way into winter this year, thank goodness.

Nice job!
What is that ground cover around the beds? Straw? Wood chips? It looks nice.

I am from Central Arkansas too!!! Have you tried onions in some of your beds? I planted some a few weeks ago and they are taking off. I have yet to convert all the way to SFG ( I had already been single row planting for years) and I love the pics. I am slowly converting old raised boxes over and I am excited for all the ideas.

To help figure out what to plant in the empty square look at you last grocery store receipt, that is what I recommend for people just starting a garden plant what you will use. Looks great!!!

Oh! and Tagyourit, I think you will be happy when you switch fully over to SFG... I started this year with a single row garden, and switched after I had planted everything! lol. Could not be happier!

I do so love it when people realize the amount of space they have using SFG compared with row gardening. I think it looks so much neater as well.
You are doing an awesome job, ArkansasSFGetc.

Well since you've planted tomatoes and jalapenos, I would suggest cilantro and onions so you can make fresh pico de gallo or salsa!!! I would also suggest some herbs. I like planting herbs that I use in cooking - thyme, sage, chives, basil, oregano etc. The boxes look great!!!

You will never go wrong if you feel free to ask questions here and use the book. Compost - if you already don't have this - start now for when you plant the next crop. Lucky you for living where you can grow multiple crops.

Hey Foodie! I do have cilantro and many other herbs.. We plant herbs in pots... I also have green onions planted. We just planted some more corn so that the harvest is a little staggered... Also I just put in some Kentucky pole beans.. We also had to replant cucumbers!! The cold and rain we got last week killed all of them.

Wow! So impressive!
ArkansasSFGardener,
I am very impressed with what you have done to create your SFG. I am sure you will get a bumper crop!
Welcome to our forum. I have learned a wealth of information in the short time that I have been here.
I've made a few missteps, but mostly I've had very good success.
Enjoy what will be a beautiful garden!

Re: Brand New SF Garden!!! Thanks for looking!
So it seems things are growing pretty slow... But I think it is because I am always looking at the garden, so everything looks the same. LOL... I picked up a green bell pepper plant at walmart that they had marked down, it already is producing... I also picked up 3 pink brandywine tomato plants at my local atwood's store, for SEVENTY CENTS!... I planted them in pots and buried them about 70% up their stem.

That's Max hanging out in the background...
I'm really excited as the season continues...
