YES! I have been to their site and found good information there before! Somewhere on there is a vegetable recommendation guide for the area, and it has a planting schedule that shows you what you can plant when in order to have things growing all year 'round. Very Happy

That would be this one. I bookmarked it a few years back, and it's definately where my planning starts.

Bayou, I found a place that had the seeds for the Creole tomato.
http://www.tomatofest.com/heirloom_tomato_seed_home.html

Although it's probably too late for me to start some now, however now that I think about it, I may just get some and put them in 5-gallon buckets, we have access to a greenhouse. I will definately put these on the list to plant next year, I am anxious to hear how yours do, keep me posted please, we get our share of humidity up here, we are only about 45 minutes from Shreveport.

They did great for me in the past. I'm hoping for the same results this season. Unfortunately, I didn't save any seeds from those that did outstanding last season, but im taking my first shot at seed saving this season. Especially if the creoles do as well as they have in the past. If I'm successful, and you still didn't get any, I'll shoot some over to you.

I went out and bought 2 more this morning. Along with another Cherokee and krim. I'm going to try my hand at canning, sauces and pastes this year, and I want to make sure that I have enough tomatoes to be "worth" the effort.

Thanks for the info. I've just checked out the website, and I've already added a few to my wishlist.

This SFG thing is an addiction I tell ya.

There is a whole section on canning here on the forum. As for canning tomatoes, you don't have to can them right away. My first experience with canning tomatoes was an adventure. I lived in a mobile home, on a hil, with no shade, my neighbor lady stopped by to say hi, it was August in NE TX and I was heating up the house canning tomatoes. She said to me "Why on earth are you canning tomatoes this time of year, just store them in the freezer (whole) until you need to heat up the house anyway". So, you can keep them in baggies in the freezer until you get enough to can or the weather cools, and it makes sense to heat the house canning.

I used that as a guide last year, I bought just about all their publications too since it is for down here. There's also a book titled "Month by Month Gardening in Louisiana: What to Do Each Month to Have a Beautiful Garden All Year". It deals with edibles and ornamentals. Wish I remember where I put the book...

That sounds like an interesting book. I'll have to look into getting a copy. Thanks.
