First time gardener needs your input!
So, I did it folks! I planned out 2 boxes, and paid close attention to the rules of companion planting. I wanted to get your input first before planting...but it was beautiful weather today, so I just went for it! I have everything in the ground that I'm supposed to by this point (my frost-free date is the 22nd.)
Please let me know what you think of these plans, and if I need to tweak anything.
Argh. I have pretty plans on GrowVeg.com but I can't figure out how to post/share it here! Can anyone help?
Box #1
------------North Side Trellis----------------
2 squares Green Beans + 2 squares Cucumbers
2 squares Spinach + 2 squares Romaine lettuce
2 squares Broccoli + 2 squares salad lettuce mix
4 squares across of carrots (in a 6" "top hat" box set on top)
Box #2 (to right side of box #1)
-----------North Side Trellis---------------------
4 squares of tomatoes (2 sq. of slicing + 2 squares of cherry)
Basil + 2 squares bell peppers + Basil
4 squares of strawberries
2 baby watermelons (1 melon per 2 squares).
I really wanted to grow peas, but I waited too late and ran out of space

Take a screen shot and save it as a jpeg or right click and see if it will allow you to save the image.

It sounds very nice. Since I am the only person I am feeding I would not have planted all the carrots at once but staggered them so I would not have so many all at once. Peas can take the cold and some frost do you have time to plant them after the cucs are done?

Re: First time gardener needs your input!
Umm, yeah. I realized right after I posted this (and actually have another post floating around out here)--that I planted everything all at once! (insert huge smacking my forehead smiley!). I just wasn't thinking clearly. Now I'm sad about it, but other than pulling up the sprouts...which my OCD self wants to do, I don't see any way around it. The whole neighborhood will enjoy the carrots I guess! LOL! And spinach...and lettuce. Ugh. It feels so wasteful to have so much come up all at once.
It's around a low of 40, high of 75 degrees here lately, so my gut is it's too warm for peas. But what do I know? This is my first year.
P.S. The warm weather crops shown in my pics. above have not been planted yet.

I use them frequently.
You might try a few radishes and short days to maturity leaf lettuces in those squares waiting for warm season plants.
